Driven by sustainability

MPS-ProductProof indicates at product level that certain active substances do not occur and have not been used in cultivation.
MPS-ProductProof is an @-on (add-on) for MPS-ABC.

In 2015, a pilot with flower and pot plant growers started with the purpose of working on an instrument. The pilot is a cooperation between Royal FloraHolland, VGB and MPS. It was scaled up to 50 growers and more interested trading and retail parties in 2016. Forward orders are currently being followed on the market.

MPS potting soil certificate

For good quality, safe potting soil with a sustainable character

The 'MPS potting soil certificate' has been specially developed by MPS for producers of sustainable potting soil intended for the consumer market. Apart from quality control, sustainability of the potting soil is also verified.

Purpose of the certification scheme

The purpose of the MPS scheme is to produce the most natural and sustainable potting soil possible, safeguarding functional requirements in relation to quality. The scheme stimulates the sustainable extraction of raw materials and production of the potting soil. This is achieved partly by:

- stimulating the use of renewable raw materials,

- limiting environmental risks (reclamation of peat and responsible extraction of raw materials, use of organic fertilisers),

- certification of a potting soil with better 'environmental performance'.

Raw materials which are subject to these requirements include: sand, clay, coconut fibre, peat, compost, bark, lava, wood fibre and rice hull. Requirements also apply to fertilisers and other additives, and the packaging for the potting soil.

MPS-Socially Qualified (MPS-SQ)

Good working conditions are an important concern to many traders and consumers. People are being increasingly critical about cultivation methods and the origin of the product. So choose the MPS Socially Qualified certificate. And certainly now international supermarket chains are more often focusing on the social aspects of your operations besides environmental requirements.

International code of conduct

When your company meets the (inter)national requirements in the field of health and safety, you have a head start over other suppliers. The MPS-SQ certificate is based on universal human rights and the codes of conduct of representative local organisations. The agreements of the ILO (International Labour Organization) are also included. In practice this means among other things that you have a good understanding of which personnel have a valid spraying permit, or who are trained in-house emergency and first-aid staff. You also have an up-to-date stock list of crop protection agents and fertilisers that are controlled during audits at the company.

- Satisfies (social) requirements of the retail channel
- Responds to social demand for socially responsible products
- Practically equal to the ETI label
- Reinforcement of the corporate image in the floriculture sector

Disposing of clear and reliable product information is a must for many traders. They must also account for the purchased flowers or plants to retailers. With MPS-Quality you give your clients confidence that your products satisfy the ever-increasingly stringent quality requirements.

The right quality and maximum reliability

As a business you want a grasp of your business processes and to see a visible improvement in their quality. This can be done with MPS-Quality. You first start with a description of a number of processes such as purchasing, harvesting, sorting and packaging. Subjects such as sales, customer satisfaction and shelf life tests are also covered in the manual. After these descriptions have been validated against the conditions, you get down to work for the first three months. And when it appears that registration works properly, the audit can be carried out and you become an accredited MPS supplier.

Because MPS-Quality is based on the uniformity of processes, the certificate is highly suitable for co-operating companies such as (growers) associations and BVs.

MPS-GAP Certificate

The MPS-GAP certificate is designed for companies supplying to retailers, and consists of a series of production requirements regarding traceability, sustainability, safety and hygiene. After MPS-ABC, MPS-GAP is the next step towards improved sustainability.
The certification scheme is benchmarked against GLOBALG.A.P and therefore complies with the requirements for the Floriculture Sustainability Initiative (FSI). FSI is an international organisation with members from all over the world. These members have set the target of having at least 90% of the flowers and plants that are traded globally certified for sustainability by 2020. This means that companies with an MPS-GAP certificate will count towards FSI’s target for 2020. A list of all MPS-GAP-certified companies is available on the MPS Trade Portal.

Demonstrable traceability, safety and hygiene

An MPS-ABC certificate is a prerequisite for MPS-GAP. In addition to a valid MPS-ABC qualification, the MPS-GAP check includes an inspection of whether the equipment is maintained on a regular basis and how you and your employees handle pesticides and fertilisers. Risk reduction and traceability of your flowers or plants are two important reasons to earn the MPS-GAP certificate. The certificate is also part of MPS-Florimark Production, the leading quality label for sustainability.

The MY-MPS daily records application makes it easy for you to keep track of your records. We can also assist you in drafting a series of policy plans detailing your and your employees’ approach to the MPS-GAP requirements.
